    another misleading headline.

mammograms are diagnostic, they are not treatments or cures.

ANY early detection is better than late...but not all BC is detected my mammograms and not all early detection saves all lives.

I know, I know, it was in the financial pages.......

Wait, how is 27 women out of 10,000 add up to 28%?:

Modern mammography screening may reduce deaths from breast cancer by about 28 per cent, a new long-term study suggests.

The study published in the British journal, BMJ said this means
that for every 10,000 women invited to screening, about 27 deaths from
breast cancer might be avoided during their lifetime.

I find the math in the article perplexing:

Modern mammography screening may reduce deaths from breast cancer by about 28 per cent, a new long-term study suggests.

The study published in the British journal, BMJ said this means
that for every 10,000 women invited to screening, about 27 deaths from
breast cancer might be avoided during their lifetime.

27 deaths avoided out of 10,000 women is 0.27%
