-
Our next luncheon is this Saturday at noon at Coastal Flats in Fairfax Corner for anyone interested.
-
that looks like a seafood restaurant. fish and seafood allergies are some of the most common food allergies....And I can't take chances with cross contamination and an allergic reaction while going through severe chemo.
So I will have to sit this one out.
Next time please consider a more inclusive restaurant. Thanks!
-
Laura-- would you feel more comfortable with California Pizza Kitchen? If so, it's in the same shopping center, and we could change the location there if you are interested in joining.
-
I apologize, I was unaware of the allergy. Would CPK work?
-
it's ok sweet ladies. I have made other plans already. Maybe next time. Enjoy your lunch!
-
ok next time then! Odie-- lets go with the Coastal Flats plan for this month in Fairfax Corner. If anyone else is interested just let us know
-
Hi ladies.
Please read and provide input if you can.
I had a bad experience at the cancer center I go to. They made mistakes and kept me waiting for 3 hours before my infusion. I was hungry for lunch the whole time. My blood pressure during the ordeal was the highest reading I had ever seen in my entire life!! They were not nice to me at all.
I want to fight my cancer not the hospital staff.
Please recommend a good center if you are familiar with any centers. Also if I have chemo at one place do I have to go to the same place for surgery? What about radiation? Thanks ladies! Laura
-
Laura,
So sorry about your negative experience! My experience through lumpectomy, 6 months of chemo, 7 weeks of rads could not have been more positive. I loved, loved all my docs, nurses and other staff involved with my care. My breast surgeon was Kirsten Edmiston, at Inova Breast Care Center at Fair Oaks, 703-207-4320. There are other excellent breast surgeons in her practice & different locations as well. Oncologist is Mary Wilkinson, also with Inova, went to her office (lovely set up for chemo) in Fairfax at 8501 Arlington Blvd., 703-207-0736. She also has an office in Reston. For rads, saw the best radiologist oncologist - Dr. Jane Grayson, head of radiology at Alexandria Hospital who specializes in breast cancer, 703-504-7900. She is one of the kindest, most informed doctors I've ever met. Unfortunately, I hear she will retire soon if she hasn't already. I'm sure there is another breast rads doctor at Alexandria, but others may chime in with recommendations as well.
There is no reason why you shouldn't be receiving excellent care with kind and considerate medical staff. Best of luck to you and keep us posted!
(((Hugs))) Paula

So sorry you had such a difficult time. Like Paula, I went to Inova Breast Care Center, Dr. Costanza Cocilovo in Fairfax for surgery. Dr, Mary Wilkinson, who is now part of Inova but wasn't at the time, for oncology. For Chemo, I went to her office in Reston but she has moved that office to Fair Oaks Inova Hospital at the time her practice became part of Inova. She also has an office in Fairfax near the hospital. For radiation, I saw Dr. Chawla at Fair Oaks Inova Breast Care Center, he and his staff were great to work with. I really had a positive experience, aside from actually having cancer, with all my care providers. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. Best, MJS
-
thanks ladies. I am in southern Maryland. While Alexandria is accessible it is quite far. And Reston is literally out of reach. Anything good near southern Maryland?
I have seven more taxol treatments and then surgery so part of me thinks I should stick it out. And I like my doctor. Just not her staff.
-
Laura,
If you like your Dr. then have a little talk with her and give her constructive feedback on her staff's practices and how they could make the experience less stressful for you and others. Best, MJ
-
thanks for the advice mj and everyone else.
I decided to stick it out. 6 more to go! My doctor is very nice...even hubby commented on it. So Thankful for the caring ones!
