Starting radiation June 30th. What to expect?

Hi Ladies,

I finished chemo, (12 weeks of Taxol and Herceptin) May 27th and just had mapping today for 7 weeks of radiation that will start June 30th.  I really have no idea what to expect from the rads. I would love to hear from ladies who have had radiation. I would love to know how your skin held up and you felt systemically during treatment.  Were you tired, was it business as usual, was your irradiated breast painful during or after treatment?

Any info would be great! : )

Michelle- I had 33 RADS treatments in 2011. All in all not too bad. Bit of burning, redness and fatigue halfway through the treatments. Your dr will recommend creams, etc to help with the burning. Plus you shouldn't be there very long; treatments are quick. I scheduled my appts first thing too. Good luck!

Rads was no big deal for me. I moisturized 2x day and about halfway through upped it to 3x day. Within a few months the skin looked perfectly normal, which shocked me. I didn't have fatigue, and I didn't really have pain, it only felt like maybe a mild sunburn at the very worst. AND I am very fair skinned and normally burn easily, so go figure! Frankly I think I was so happy to be done with chemo that rads just couldn't get me down. I hope rads goes just as well for you. :)

Thanks for the feedback ladies. I have had 3 treatments so far and don't notice anything different yet in the irradiated area. Hoping it continues to be smooth sailing!! : )

    Happy 4th!
