I may have missed it but:

i just met with my oncologist first time today and I had a mastectomy left breast for multi centric/multifocal DCIS - i just learned there was DCIS micro invasion that is ER/PR negative and HER2 + . its so small that no treatment is warranted. can anyone talk about their experience with recurrence? I am petrified! I am 41 with 3 small kids and am trying to brave -)

any feedback so appreciated! this is my first post ever………..directions welcomed

    Hi Missygirl, and Welcome!

I am so sorry you have had to join us, but very pleased you've found this site. It is a wonderful place for support and information.

I can't speak with personal experience about the microinvasion, except to say, there are many, many women here who had the same Dx as you and are doing just fine. Take some big breaths! They will come and let you know of their experience. Ask anything here, we all know what that awful fear feels like. This is a great community of women reaching out to each other.

Your first post has you on your way to meeting a fantastic group of women who will rally around you and let you know that you're never alone in this....take it easy and I look forward to seeing you here! (((((((HUGS)))))))

I am 41 too and was diagnosed in May.  I also have 3 kids.  My oldest is 11.  I had a lumpectomy and expect to start radiation at the end of this month.  My DCIS small, triple positive, and I don't know how big my invasive component was because they removed it all in the biopsy.  I have spoken to two oncologists and both have recommended no chemo and have an appointment to meet with a third.  We should stay in touch :)

    Hi all,

I am in the same boat.  49 with 3 kids under 6.  DX about 10 days ago with low grade DCIS and DCIS-MI <1mm also low grade.  One "faintly" visible tumor that was dx via a 3D mammo and guided biopsy (core needle missed it).   My 1st appt with surgeon is not until 9/9, so right now I am in purgatory.  This truly stinks.  The emotional drain is overwhelming. I am completely ok with having a mastectomy if it means no radiation or meds.  Radical yes, but for me it's rational.   I don't want this to affect my kids and taking energy depleting meds with other risks doesn't sound very promising.  I am really hoping that by some miracle I can have a lumpectomy with no rads or meds.  I am pre-menopausal and have been having some hot flashes here & there for about a year - so hopefully that's good!  Crossing my fingers that all of the minimal wording used in the path report are true to form, but then again I am also hopeful that I wake up and this is all a bad dream.

    Hi Osfan and others

    Welcome
to Breastcancer.org. We're sorry you have to be here, but glad you found us! You will find the support here invaluable.

Besides sharing your experiences and learning from other members here at the boards, you may also want to take a look at the Breast Cancer 101section from the main site, which is designed to help you sort through all of the information on our site to find what is more relevant to you right now.

Also reliable information on DCIS—Ductal Carcinoma In Situ where you'll learn about symptoms,
    diagnosis, treatment, etc.

Waiting for appointments is a very stressful time and you'll get sympathy from others on this forum as they've been through the waiting too. It is not an easy time at all. However, it gives you a chance to learn more so you can ask better questions and understand the potential treatments better.

You may consider not reconstructing and going flat, so read Living Without Reconstruction After a Mastectomy, or you could read the Reconstruction
    stories
and options on BCO and ask questions.

There are many issues to consider and many variables in all treatments
depending upon location, surgeon, your body's responses and your Dx.

    We hope
    this helps!

    Hi All,

I can't believe I am here! I am 43 years old with 2 children. I found a lump in my right breast about 2 weeks ago. I had an ultrasound and then a biopsy which states it is DCIS. I hope that is all it is. I met with a surgeon today but can't make any plans until I have more information. I will be having an MRI next week and will be referred to an oncologist, plastic surgeon and radial oncologist. I am so sick about this I have lost 10 pounds already (and I'm not overweight). I know I need to stay strong and healthy but I am having trouble seeing the other side of this. I'm glad there is a place where others know how I am feeling because I don't know how to talk to my friends or family.
