hi

i have just been told my blood calcium is up, has anyone else had this. A bit concerned re mets, had a clear bone scan in Jan 2014 but have had a nagging pain in my rib area for over 12months now. GP has sent my report to my Onc, any suggestions would be appreciated. Ive seen it may be parahyperthyroidism. thank you.

Katz, with your GP and oncologist both looking into the cause, it sounds as though you're on the right track to finding out the reason for your blood calcium numbers and rib pain. Please post again when you hear the results.

My blood calcium was at 10.9 at my last check-up - mild hypercalcemia.  I was told to stop taking supplements and get re-tested.  I was re-tested today.  Waiting for results.  Very nervous.  If the number is not down to normal then I will be tested for bone mets.

I had a calcium level spike recently to 11.0 and then it went down in 6 weeks (stopped taking vitamin D with calcium) to 10.3 which is still above normal. Will retest in a few weeks. It can be caused by b-9 conditions too like a problem with a faulty parathyroid gland, not just mets! Don't go there unless you need to. Dorihans, since yours was not that high either, they will likely retest and then check your parathyroid gland.

Usually bone mets will spike calcium very high, not in the 11 range like us. Of course, being vigilant and checking is what should be done, but I was told not to worry. All of my body aches are likely from the Aromasin, not mets they tell me (and of course DCIS can't metasticize but your mind thinks they missed an IDC right away when faced with elevated calcium!) so keep calm and get checked but think positive!
