My mom just had her biopsy and the results just came back positive today. They called as she was leaving to the airport to fly abroad. She called me from her flight. She didn't get any details from the nurse. I don't anything. What should I expect! How soon she she start treatment? What should i ask the nurse tomorrow when i call to ask for details? My mom is 51 and she is the best mom. I cannot see her go through this. I just hope and pray she gets well soon.

So sorry about the bad news I'm not sure the nurse will be able to give you any information due to privacy laws. There are endless possibilites regarding your mom's diagnosis. Breast cancer is very scary, but most women who are diagnosed go on to live full and complete lives after treatment. I'll bet your mom is formulating her plan right now. One of the ways you can really support her is by being a good listener, and also by continuing your life in a responsible and productive manner so she won't have to worry as much about how you're doing. If you find out anymore about her diagnosis we'd be happy to help with any questions. Also you might suggest that your mom join BCO for information and support. Hang in there - this period of not knowing the ttreatment plan is the hardest part.

    Dear gayathrig 81,

I'm very sorry that you and your mum are going through this. it's a huge shock when someone you love gets diagnosed withcancer. Right now you must be reeling from the shock so you would feel an urgency to know as much as possible in a short time. Trust me when I say that you do have time. You need to stop and breathe....yes it's scary....terrifying right now but as you learn to navigate through all this bc stuff you will start to get a clearer picture and things will get better.

Your mother is in good hands....she will have a medical team that will look after her and explain things as she moves along her bc journey. At first there will be many tests and discussions about the stage of the cancer and the grade and all the possible treatments. Once you know the type of bc she has been diagnosed with, it will be easier for you to get further information. You've certainly come to the right place because you will find many awesome people here that will support you through this very difficult time.

As "kicks" stated above...you really need to find the type of bc your mum has.

Since the nurse seems to be forthcoming with information, ask her to mail to your mother a copy of the pathology report.  She might not do it for you unless your mother designates you as a person who can receive personal medical information.  She should do that.

Until you have the pathology report, you will be in the dark.  As already stated, there are big differences in different types of breast cancer requiring vastly different kinds of treatment..
