Thyroid freak out.....

Options

So,

I have 3 nodules on my thyroid--one is over the 1cm size recommended for biopsy so I am having that done on 6/5.  My thyroid function is fine.  I just read the ultrasound report and two words jumped out "microcalcifications" and "suspicious mass".  All the data on thyroid nodules seem to be in my favor (95% are benign) but I am a little freaked out now that I have read that.  I know, I know better--- radiologists have to write everything down, but I just don't want to have cancer again (who does?)... I don't think I could bear it.....

Trying to pull myself together--reminding myself that hopefully, even at its worst, it is just removal of the thyroid (although I would prefer to keep it!).  But, my mental gymnastics definitely are dragging me down---- although the terror is significantly less than it was during my bc diagnostic phase.

Please say some prayers for benign findings!

thanks

How did things turn out? Thyroid nodules are pretty common and like you said, almost all are benign. Thyroid cancer is usually very treatable.

I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis so I get lots of nodules/biopsies. The largest nodule is currently 7 cm and I have a few more at 2-5 cm so thyroid surgery may be in the works just to reduce the goiter size.
