Today was my first mamo after my lumpectomy and radiation.  The girl who did my test came and handed me a brief test result that said suspicious and to be rechecked in 6 months.  She said my BS would get the full report and contact me.  Is this normal to have as a result the first mamo after surgery ? I did have the Contura Balloon radiation, and also had a seroma during the healing.   I see my BS on June 13....only freaking out a bit

I think they are really cautious reading results of mammograms for BC patients.  For one, your breast has changed with scar tissue and radiation.  Comparing images from before treatment and after may raise flags because of these differences.  Your BS should be able to explain what was suspicious and whether it is a concern or not.

I had a call back and ultrasound on my good breast recently.  Luckily they do this immediately after the initial mammogram and promptly give results.  Freaked me out, but all was fine.  They now have a good baseline for future exams.

Let's hope this is just tissue changes from treatment that are concerning an overly cautious radiologist.

doxi, thank you for your reply.  I am praying what you said , which is what I am thinking as well, is true.  This is so hard to deal with.  There are some days I pray for the next 5 years to be gone overnight, however I also know that 5 years or 22 years, it can rear it's ugly head all over again.  I am a 23 year survivor of ovarian cancer, also found in stage 1.  I am grateful, and silly me I believed I was home free, but at 52, I got breast cancer....ugh...it was exactly 221/2 years to the date of my ovarian cancer diagnosis, talk about timing.  All we can do is put our big girl pants on, a beautiful smile and move forward with hope .....
