A Treatment Plan Really Helped with My Outlook

Hi Ladies - first of all, thanks for all of  your support on my posts the last few weeks.  Every bit of encouragement helped!  Since my diagnostic process has been really long, I think that really compounded my fears.  But last week I met with my medical team and boy did that make a big difference.  We decided on a single mastectomy (I have several small tumors in one quadrant) with nipple sparing reconstruction, with tissue expander and eventually the gummy bear implant.  I won't know about other treatment until after the surgery, but I can't imagine I get by without chemo.  But I'm just focusing on this step right now and getting ready. Unfortunately they are booked until early July but are trying to make an earlier date happen so I will likely have my surgery sometime in June, I should know on Tuesday.

I also visited my nurse practitioner who gave me some low does Xanax and it really has helped take the edge off. It might not be right for everyone, but it has helped me not to think about breast cancer every minute, and to get a good night's sleep.  I've also now told my family, coworkers, and friends, and all of the love and support has been so wonderful.  And I made a new friend thru a PM on this board that lives near me so we can share support during our treatment.  My treatment facility (Johns Hopkins) has had several survivors call me to provide encouragement.  I'm getting every bit of love I can Smile

One thing I will also say is that researching on the internet on reputable sites is OK, but reading all kinds of other stuff that pop up on Google was a big mistake, at least for me.  I've sworn off the internet for a while except for tips on how to make my surgery go easier.  I trust my doctors without a shadow of a doubt so there's no use reading stuff that isn't going to make any difference.

My hugs and prayers to anyone that might be reading this post that has recently been diagnosed, its hard and scary, but we can do it!  Someone told me to remember, I'm not in a cave, but a tunnel, and I will get to the other side!  All the best to everyone.

    Maggie,

So glad that you are feeling better about things now that there is a treatment plan in place.   I have an appointment with the oncologist wednesday @ 3pm to come up with a plan so hoping that after that appointment I will feel even more stable as well, definitely going to ask about xanax or something when I go in too.

    (((hugs))) we got this!!
