has anybody had a difference in the receptors from the biopsy which changed in the mastectomy specimen?

My wife had 60% weak estrogen positive in the biopsy and final pathology was estrogen negative

The mastectomy was 5-6 weeks after the biopsy

Grade 2

2 cm

No negative

Thanks

It is important to note that tumors are not homogenous, different areas of the same tumor may yield different percentages of positivity - depending on what part of the mass was sampled at the time of biopsy you are provided with only that snapshot.  Also, you can have a different receptor number from slide to slide - the way the percentage is figured is how many cells out of 100 on the slide have a ER+ receptor - in the biopsy sample the answer was 60, thus 60%.  When you have a discrepancy of 60 out of 100 cells with positive receptors in the biopsy sample versus 0 in the surgical sample, I would also be inclined to wonder if there was a lab error in slide prep at either the biopsy or surgery.  How many slides were prepared from the surgical sample?  Were they all negative for ER receptors?  It might be worth having a second pathological opinion.

    Biopsy was the anomaly

    Getting them reviewed

I want to be sure the first biopsy was not mixed up with someone else
