Finding an Oncologist that will see you medicaid pending
So, last Tuesday when I was given my diagnosis they were rushing into scheduling an appointment with oncology to get chemo started as soon as possible because of its high mitotic rate they were talking see doctor next week and most likely prepare for chemo to start within 2 weeks of that...
Now, they are saying I should wait the 6-8 weeks to be approved for medicaid and then have my first appointment with my oncologist...
I don't like that at all, hey its rapid spreading we need to get you in next week and get you started on chemo probably in 2 weeks-- oh wait you dont have any money well then we can see you in 2 months ?!?
So any ideas, resources, etc would be great -- Katy- Houston, Texas area

gee, was trying to write a posting to your other post and I lost it (computer junk). Have you researched the best oncologist for you? if so, ask them but first try to find one that you are comfortable with. You mentioned you knew folks in the medical field? Ask ask ask.I started out with my diagnosis at one hospital but ended up with my RO & MO at a totally dif hospital. Better one and closer to my office.
I am not sure how rapid spreading your cancer is, the seem to act like everything is a rush when times it is not. Do you have a PCD that you have talked with in the past? Mine is good at calming me down.....
sides check with the Medicaid folks also and see if they can help

I went to see my PCD last week just for his opinion on the diagnosis etc, (he helped deliver me so he's been my doctor for 39 years now) he told me I need to do the chemo etc. because it has such a high mitotic (?) rate the sooner I get started the better my results are going to be... when they did the 2nd US after my biopsy results the tumor had already gotten just a bit bigger and they said because it was invasive and they did the biopsy that just that could cause it to spread ..
the oncologist that was originally suggested my doctor feels is one of the very best oncologists in the area ...
Guess I'm just have to do some calling and see what I can get done...

Choas,
Call your center & ask to speak to the social worker. It's there job to direct you to the correct resources, & possibly make some calls on your behalf.

Calland talk to your case worker. Mine was super nice and rushed my application to get approved. Although not everyone is accommodating it doesn't hurt to try

It took a month, but finally got everything squared away on that end! Thanks for the advice! If anyone else runs into this problem my words of advice would be call email contact until they get tired of hearing from you and get it done lol im sure they started dreading my am phone calls!
