New Job- Good Idea or Not, Considering Health Insurance

Options

Just got a second primary diagnosis in the other breast, less than one year after the first.  I was looking for anew job- but is this a bad idea, given current health insurance climate?  Anyone have any experience with this?

Best to All!

If you are moving from a group plan to a group plan, you will be covered. New plans cannot reject you or charge you more because of your pre-existing condition. What you probably need to check carefully is that you do not have a break in coverage.

I didn't look for a new job for quite a while because I feared having no seniority & getting in trouble with an attendance policy because of so many doctors appointments.  I suspect I would have been let go from a new job for having to take off so much time. That worried me more than insurance.

I don't know if this would work in your life, but one of the 'perks' I found in working my graveyard shift job  for me is that I can go to almost all doctor's appointments (note: I have not needed potentially exhausting treatments like chemotherapy or radiation) without taking off work.  If I need a procedure that requires sedation, then I try to schedule it on my days off.  It also gives me some degree of job security because few people want to work the graveyard shift.  But some jobs can only be done during the day.

I am the first to say that graveyard shift work does not work for everyone.

Remember that FMLA doesn't come into force until you have been on a job for a year...
