My time between lumpectomy and rads was 8 wks; a little long, traditionally.  This because I was being given different opinions about getting a node biopsy.  Anyway, when I pointed out to the RO (who I think is VERY good) that if I got the SNB so long after the lumpectomy, I was being told I would then need 6 further wks. for healing till rads could begin, making the total time after lumpectomy 3 mo.  He said that he did not think that time would make a difference in the effectiveness overall of the radiation, and I believe him.  He's the best, most informed and forthcoming doc I had through the whole thing.

hi Percy4 and friends. Yes saw BS followup this week. My Lx margin were clear and 2mm (seems really small, but the BS said good)! The doc took some extra skin and it was all good too. And SNB was negative yeah!  Puzzled by--My ER and PR are both  negative and I am having trouble understanding this as they didnt give me HERS results. But I read with DCIS that they  dont always do this test. Should I ask now to get it? I'm afraid of triple negative dx. I have my conslts with ONC and RAD on 6\19 and 6\24 and will get plan and rad dates. Anyone know about ERPR negative?

If it's pure DCIS, then there is much less worry about HER2, as the significance of it in DCIS is not really thought to be the same as in invasive cancer.   The main thing for you with the ER/PR negative is that you will not be offered Tamoxifen as it would not be helpful.

Triple negative invasive cancer is more aggressive that hormone positive, and is usually given chemo as that is really the only weapon against it since the estrogen modulators wouldn't help, nor would Herceptin, but triple negative DCIS is not the same thing as by definition it is confined to the ducts so metastases are not a concern.
