Excisional Biopsy - what the surgeon said afterwards

Hello,

I had an excisional bipsy/exploration today.  Last July I started having sporadic discharge.  At the time I had a normal mammogram that showed dense breast tissue.  Fast forward to three weeks ago when discharge was blood-tinged.  I had another normal mammogram and ultrasound, although obgyn and bs both felt a lump adjacent to the nipple.  Today I had a breast excision.  The surgeon was able to identify the duct responsible for the dicharge easily and removed it.  She said it was enlarged/dilated and contained fluid.  She didn't note any other obvious abnormalities.  The pathology will be back next week.

Curious if your surgeons knew immediately that you had abnormalities consistent with dcis or if you had to wait for the pathology report for answers?  Also interested to know how the duct appeared when it was removed?  Thanks in advance...

    Hi Catie19,

I had to wait 6 days for my biopsy results due to the timing of my excision and the holiday weekend.  The only thing my surgeon said when I woke up from my surgery was to tell me that it all went very well.  With DCIS, they really can't tell anything until it is under the microscope, I believe.  My pathology report didn't indicate how the duct looked, other than it's color.

It's a long tough wait, but you'll make it.  Take care of you.  Stress takes a toll on the body so get to bed early if you can, and eat right.  I found that the best distraction for me was to keep to my daily routine, and watching really spooky movies with my husband. :)
