New medications for hot flashes

Just an FYI- I saw my oncologist this morning and he said the FDA approved a medication that helps with hot flashes. Paroxetine.

I can't take effexor since it makes me nuts, so this is a good alternative.   I wanted to pass on the info for others that are sweating it out ;)

    This is also known as Paxil.

    I didn't see the original message but did read about the new drug approved by the FDA.  I read that some sort of advisory panel recommended it not be approved as it wasn't very effective in reducing hot flashes, in studies after 12 months the placebo group had almost the same hot flash reduction. I'll see if I can find the news story. 

    OK found it - it was in last week's NEJM and includes references for anyone wanting to delve deeper.
