I am 61 y.o. and recently diagnosed with IDC. Surgery is this Friday, May 16. BC is ER and PR positive HER2 negative. Do not have info on node status as yet. I was also diagnosed with Type II diabetes 4 years ago. At that time I began using a sweetener called Truvia and then Stevia because I thought they would be much healthier for me. I just read an article that states Stevia (although being an "all natural" sweetener) can cause the body to store Estrogen and can interfere with Progesterone as well. I have always eaten organic as much as possible so this was very upsetting when I thought I was doing the right thing.

Has anyone else heard anything at all about this? Thanks for any info you can provide.

I have never heard of this and have used Truvia for the past couple of years. I occasionally use brown suger in baking . Refined white sugar is supposed to be the badie ( or at least I thought.) If we could live w/out any sugar would be best but as you likely know even fruit has natural sugar in it.

i have type 2 as well and was told by my integrative cancer care clinic to never use anything but pure maple syrup or unpasteurized honey for sweeteners.

I don't use much. You would have to monitor your glucose levels to see what difference it makes.  I think anything else does more harm than the natural stuff.  You get good and bad reviews about stevia googling so hopefully someone comes along with a better answer than i have.  Best of luck to you.

I am responding to Nana2PandS - I too have been diagnosed with breast cancer and the lump in my breast became noticeable after using much stevia - Truvia for quite some time! The stevia/Truvia was the only change in my diet that I can recall and this supposedly natural sweetener made me slightly dizzy or slightly off-balance whenever I used it and I wondered if it was even safe.

My breast cancer diagnosis was Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, Poorly Differentiated Her2 new measured by IHC; mine wasn't indeterminant; mine has extra copies of the

    Her-2/new positive

After what I read on another website that tests on Stevia in 2008 caused cells to mutate and damaged DNA, etc., and prior to 2008 studies posed questions about the safety of this sweetener I think the FDA should be informed about this and perhaps remove it from the market. Just because no one else has heard of this doesn't mean it isn't happening! I had wondered for quite some time if anyone else had noticed a link between having a lump in the breast and their frequent use of the stevia or Truvia and then I read your post tonight so I am sharing my same concern. Hope you get better and stay healthy - I'll pray for you!

Hi Lambschild, NanaP2s has not been on the site for 2 years and her question was from 3 years ago so she won't see your response.

Although I think Stevia and Truvia are probably not good for us I think we needed several things to line up to cause the cancer. Trying to nail it down to one thing will only cause you stress... which causes cancer so say some. :-)

If you want other opinions you should start a thread so people will see it on the main page.

    Take care.
