I was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 29. I had a tram flap and breast was reconstructed.

At the time when all of this was happening my dad died from bowel cancer. Now I've been good health wise and all these years later and have done my 5 years on tamoxifen and have been advised to carry on taking it for another 5 years. My mother is terminal from secondary breast. I am waiting to see a genetic counsellor. I am now faced with seriously considering having a mastectomy and implant put in to relieve my mental stress from wondering about cancer ever coming back. I was wanting to see is anyone in the forum been faced with a situation like this.

Friebee - I'm so sorry your family has been decimated by this terrible disease. Many, many of us have chosen preventive surgery on one side or both. The stress of the screenings can be overwhelming. I'm glad you are seeing a GC. Mine helped me immensely by putting a number on my risk (50%),. So sorry about your mom. Best of luck.

I am sorry about your Mom and also the passing of your Father.  I can relate as I lost my Father 81/2 yrs ago, but feels like yesterday.  I as well am thinking of a mastectomy on my other breast.  I am just now filling out all the paperwork for the Genetic Counselor.  My sister does not have breast cancer and she did all her genetic testing, just waiting for the results.

Hang in there, this is not easy.
