I just had my BMX this week (5/5) and also chose no reconstruction.  I am 46 and a few people have questioned my choice.  Bottom line is: I want the cancer out of me (hopefully done!) and want to get back to living life with my husband and children. The thought of more surgeries and more time spent being unable participate in things with my kids was just too much. Good luck to you. Go with your gut instinct - it is always right!

I did a. Bilateral with no recon and am very happy.

I was small before so it wasn't as big a change.  You might find it a bigger change.  I had many reasons for not wanting to do recon, including a different illness I had at the time (which thankfully is gone now).

I am creative with bras, clothes and forms.  I told almost no one what I did except my close family.  Mine was prophylactic so I didn't have cancer and my recovery was so fast.  No pain.

No one could notice anything unusual about me while dressed and I can wear a bikini bathing suit and look good.  (Victoria's Secret bandeau, it rocks)

Best luck to you.  Recon is an arduous thing and you want to be committed to it.  If you're not, then don't rush it.  You have plenty on your plate now.

Belleb, i am beginning to feel the way you do! i had two surgeries so far: one for lumpectomy and then another to get clear margins. I have dense breasts that do not show up on mammograms. also, my left breast will need radiation and that is over my heart. my cancer is er/pr+ so also considering removing my ovaries so i don't have to take tamoxifen. thinking now of bilateral mastectomy to prevent recurrence. I also have LVI (no nodes but isolated tumors) and even though my oncotype says no chemo I think it would be good to kill any stray cell floating around. What have you decided to do? I also would think of not having reconstruction. I already have my 3 kids and think all the extra surgeries would be more than I could manage at this point.
