Hello, Does it really take a month to get results? If this is one of the factors in our decision as to what type of surgery can't this be done any faster?

Thank you.

Yep, that's how long it takes. You are in no rush but if you have strong family history you could base your decision on that and go ahead with MX. And it may even take longer to schedule a MX with immediate/delayed reconstruction since it's a long surgery and both surgeons have to be available at the same time.

Thanks inks. Not sure how strong the family hx is. An aunt diagnosed at 34 with breast cancer, died at 38. Can I based my decision on an overwhelming fear of going through this again? Being sarcastic but that's where I am.

I had my BRCA results back sooner than two weeks.  The lab was Meridian....

I was told if they are using it to make a surgical decision, they can put a rush on it.  In my case, I knew I only wanted a lumpectomy at that time no matter what it showed, so they didn't rush and it still only took about 2 weeks.

There are a lot of people who are BRCA negative but decide to be proactive due to strong family history. But you should not rush with your decision, give yourself plenty of time to think, you can not undo mastectomy. But you can have a lumpectomy and do the MX even years later if you feel so. The fact that your aunt had BC at such a young age is concerning and it would be very interesting to see what the results of genetic testing are. Your biggest concern at the moment should be treating the cancer you HAVE, you have plenty of time to think about doing something to prevent any future cancer.
