Arimidex and finger nails

I have been on arimidex for 5 and 1/2 years. About a year ago I noticed changes in my finger nails. The thumb nails are very bumpy and have thick areas. All of the nails are weak and have lines in them. I hide my hands often. I don't want to put nail polish on the nails worried about them needing air. Also since they are thin they break as they grow, never getting long enough to look attractive. Sometimes I feel sad with all the changes breast cancer has brought me. My hair is so thin I have to try to hide bald spots, I have gained weight, I lost my breast and now my hands look so bad. BUT.... I also have to admit that these are small prices to pay if the drug keeps me alive.

Yes, it could be the AI, but you might check with your PCP for another reason.  It took my nails over a year to recover from chemo, but now two years on AIs, they are fine.

Thank you doxie for replying. I did some online research and have decided to go to see my pcp.

An update. I went to my PCP the fingernail changes were caused by infection in the skin around the nail. Nice to relax and know it is not something major. I thought it was caused by the arimidex. I guess our minds will always go to the fact that we have cancer and that is the cause of everything.
