Hi everybody -

My name's Mike and I'm new to the board.  I know woman are supposed to periodically give themselves self-exams to check for lumps and bumps, but I'm wondering if men should do the same thing?  I've noticed a little bump underneath my nipple and I'm not sure if it's something I should be worried about or if I should see a doctor about it.  Thanks in advance.

    Hey Mike,

I don't know if there are any guidelines on self-checks for men, but I think that if you are concerned enough to post on a BC board, you should probably see your doctor.  I'm a believer in going with your gut.  Men can get BC - it's rare, but it happens  Or - you can do what we ladies do and keep an eye on it for a month or so, if it doesn't go away or if it gets any worse, then go get checked out.

    Hopefully it's nothing.

    Hi Mike,

I agree with Sarahjane ... wouldn't hurt to get it checked out.  Hopefully, one of the guys will be by soon to be of help.

Let us know what happens next.

    hugs,

    Bren

I noticed mine while showering.  I felt it and I did nothing.  Then the nipple started to pull inward.  That is when I went to the doctor.  If you have a lump and it is under the nipple, go have it checked.  If they tell you it is a "lipoma," tell them that men don't get lipomas directly under the nipple.  That is the story that 2 doctors gave me.  They were wrong.

Wow, thanks for all the responses.  I'm going to make an appointment to have it checked out just to be safe.  I guess the positive side (aside from finding all the helpful people on this board :) ) is that I found it early and over the past week since I found it, I've checked daily and it has definitely gotten smaller..but at the same time I don't want it to disappear before I get to the doctor just in case it really is something to be concerned about.  Thanks everyone!

YES GET IT CHECKED. what harm is there in feeling for lumps? catch it early, and you wont be having all my problems. if it isn't cancer, why waste a lot of time worrying?
