Pigment changes near mastectomy site

Options

I had a single mastectomy over a year ago (December 2012), and have been finished with chemo since June 2013. I did not have radiation, and I did not have reconstruction, but I do take Tamoxifen.

This morning, I noticed 3 roundish brownish spots near my mastectomy scar. They look like pigment changes, or age spots. Is this a sign of cancer recurring?

    Hi davick,

They are probably not cancer but you should have your doctors look at them when you see them next. You should also keep an eye on them to see if they are changing. I'm pretty sure tamoxifen can cause hyperpigmentation as a side effect.

If your next check up is more than 6-8 weeks away you might want to make an appointment if it looks suspicious.   I'm pretty sure if they have a nice defined edge or not very irregular in shape and one even color that is probably an age spot.

    Good luck! Annie
