Since IBC Is Defined Weirdly, How Are Margins Determined?

As I'm heading towards surgery, I've run into a question which has me stumped. Since IBC pre-surgery is long and aimed towards breaking down the cancer into micro-bands, how does one know what a good margin is? I've read that some surgeons find a margin of 2mm acceptable while others what at least 10mm. I'd am confused and, obviously, would like a larger margin but also want to preserve as much chest wall as possible as I have accident-related scoliosis centered right at my current bra line. I've had breast reduction surgery years ago to relieve some of the pain which is chronic. My scoliosis is one reason I am doing a bi-lat.

Any thoughts on what is a acceptable margin?

Good question, Bride. Best of luck with the surgery. I will be thinking of you. I have no idea about the margins, but I'll be interested in the answer your surgeon will provide. I'm headed for surgery on the 20th of May, and since the neoadjuvant chemo and radiation have apparently had very little if any effect, the question of margins will be capital for me as well.  I'd be surprised if they have more than 2mm of margin with me.  Will  be on pins and needles thinking of you. Please let us know as soon as you have something to share.
