How to make myself crazy trying to interpret tech statements

I have been sick almost all winter with crazy colds, etc.  had a chest xray in February--clear.. things started to resolve in March/April, but still slow going.  Went to my regular physical last week and my pcp (she who found my bc lump 5 years ago) did all those breathing things and said--well it is getting better clinically, but let's do another xray--i hear something.  So I go off to the xray place--and here is the crazy part.

You know how we all look at the techs to see if we can read their mind? any facial expression, etc. can send us down the rabbit hole.  Well, this tech comes out and says "where are you going now?" and I say "home, why do you ask"  "your doctor will call you, but the office might be closed"--"well, I said, I assumed I would hear from her next week".  "she wrote "urgent"  on the order, says the tech.

So, Now I flip out.  It is, of course, Friday after 4--I am driving around town getting things for Easter thinking the absolute worst.  I finally have to talk myself down from the ledge (I would have come here but I was not near my computer).  Finally, at 5pm, the pcp calls and says the xray is clear...

I still have the cough, but it is significantly less--and now it seems to have morphed into allergies..... good heavens......

Mom- boy can I relate to your story about reading your tech's face...I did the same thing and it backfired. I was called back in after my mammogram which had never happened so I was really scared. Somehow I just knew. Anyway the tech told me I would be going home - no worries- so you can imagine my shock when the radiologist walks in and says "you won't like what I am going to tell you" ..the rest as they say is history. If I knew then what I know now I would have known those dark images weren't a good thing. Live and learn. Diane
