Delayed Symmetry Procedures - not told!

edited June 2014 in Breast Reconstruction

I am curious if anyone else has woken from surgery to unexpected results.

I had my symmetry surgery on April 3, 2014.  In every meeting I have had with my plastic surgeon (including the pre-op about 10 days before surgery) we talked about a lollipop lift and a small implant as the one symmetry procedure.  I awoke from surgery, half hysterical, with an anchor lift & no implant at all!  At my follow up appointment yesterday, I got the distinct impression that my PS had planned a staged procedure all along, never communicating this with me - after waiting 4 months for the symmetry procedure, I thought I would be done and was devastated.  Not to mention slightly outraged at the anchor lift.  My PS said with the amount of ptosis I had, the other lift was necessary.  Which sounds reasonable, but I asked why he never told me the other lift was necessary?  Afterall, My breast didn't sag in the past 10 days!  He had asked for some "leeway" with the incisions right before surgery - I surely didn't think that was consent to do an entirely different procedure.  I feel deliberately deceived.  & now the implant insertion can't be done until June 25th.  Are you kidding me?? Although he is suppose to be the best breast PS in Chicago, I have really lost faith here.

I am trying my best to focus on moving forward and not on what is happened, but I can't seem to stop thinking about it.  Does anyone share a similar situation?  Is this excessive staging / having to go under multiple times, somehow related to the procedures being covered by insurance?  Does anyone have any thoughts??  He also played the cancer card, saying this was "reconstruction" not cosmetic surgery, but this surgery had nothing to do with my cancer & any plastic surgeon in my area does a "boob job" that includes a lift+implants in one procedure, because who would do it otherwise?  Has anyone been as frustrated as I am that maybe we are being treated differently because of insurance?  Thanks in advance for sharing your stories or thoughts.
