Did my cysts turn into Breast Cancer?
I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer negative 3 Dec. 2011. Went through it all. Chemo, rads. Two years now Cancer free. In January I found a small lump on my other breast. Had a biopsy in January, 2014. Pathology report said it's a ruptured cysts. Yeah, right? Well, 2 1/2 months later the "cyst" tripled is size and as my surgeon ran the ultra sound over the lump she said "Oh Gwen, I don't like this". I am scheduled for surgery Thursday the 17th to have it removed and tested. WTF? My hair just grew back all curly and pretty. My life is getting back to normal. Could this really be happening again? Please, has anyone out there had a similar experience? Did you have a cysts that turned Cancer? Look forward to hearing any and all reply's.

Hi Gwen. I'm sorry you are going through this and I hope for benign results for your biopsy.
It is exceptionally rare that complex (not simple-simple cysts are benign) cysts become cancerous, but having a cyst does not preclude a cancer from being in the same area of the breast.

Thank you Melissa. Your right. Didn't think that Cancer could be in the same area. Wow, it sure grew aggressively fast. I still wonder if the poking around in the cysts caused the "Lump" to become Cancerous. Of coarse, Doctors won't tell you that. They missed my last lump saying it was density .... four months later I go back to find out it was Cancer. Thursday can't get here soon enough!

Of course you're scared because the last lump was density, then four months later they find out its cancer. I'd be scared too.
I don't think they've done any studies if poking around the cysts can cause the lump to be cancerous, but remember, breasts evolved to be poked and chewed. If this breast trauma caused cancer all the time, then infants wouldn't have mothers to feed them. Lots of women get biopsies of tissue that end up being from trauma, and the woman doesn't recall a breast injury.
This paper opined that the average age of recurrent breast cancers from initial surgical resection to breast cancer recurrance was 2.7 years. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21361242 .
If its grown faster than that, then wouldn't it be less likely to be cancer?
