I am having exchange, reduction, lift (and removal of arm port) this coming Wednesday, and some mentioned "pocket work". I tried to look it up, but can not find anything. Could someone explain what the term means?

Thanks so much! :)

    Hi,

The ps has to make pockets in the chest for the expanders and later implants to sit in and support them. Usually the more pocket work you have to have done the more potential for pain or discomfort. When I had my exchange he had to a fair bit of pocket work because my expanders were narrower than the implants. I found it only to be painful the first day or two and absolutely nothing compared to having the expanders themselves put in.

I had just the opposite experience as Brenda.

My TEs were wider than my implants, so the PS had to go in and stitch all the way around the pockets to narrow them before he put the implants in. The proper term for what I had done was "lateral capsulorraphies"... or in plain language, he fixed it so that my New Girls don't slip down under my armpits when I lie on my back.

I had a few more (and longer) restrictions after Exchange, but I am SO glad he did those procedures!
