Unhappy with breast reconstruction results

I'm 21 and in Feb. decided a preventative double mastectomy is something that I needed to do due to family history/death. This entire process has been extremely positive and rather peaceful for me. I am beyond blessed that this has been the case for me as I know it is sometimes not the case at all for others. I had tissue expanders for about 2 months and I had my exchange surgery last week. I felt like a little kid waiting for a christmas present. I was so excited and happy to get it all over with. When I got home from surgery all I did was cry. I hate my new breasts. They're so small, flat, and miss shaped. I am smaller than what I started with and I'm extremely disappointed. I think for going through all of this I should at least be happy with the outcome? I have my post-op appointment this Tuesday and I don't know what to tell my plastic surgeon. I'm obviously not happy with my new breasts but is there anything he can do? I've heard it is common for women to be unhappy with their results.

Gabby, I am sorry you are upset with the outcome of your surgery. I know there will be others who will comment who have had the same surgery, I did not have tissue expanders, but I did have implants put in following my double mastectomy. I can share with you that the shape will improve. They will round and settle in, just give them some time, this is normal. The size issue is something you can tell your plastic surgeon. He may be able to help, if you are not happy. Again, I hope you get some feedback soon from some of the other sisters on here. Chin up, you are healthy, and made a bold decision to stay that way. That takes courage so I know you handle this too. Hopefully you will get some good input soon

please tell your PS your concerns. He or she can't fix what they don't know. That being said, they will change with some time. I'm not sure if they will appear bigger, but please let your PS know how you feel.

Thank you both for the kind words. I had a shaped implant put in during my exchange as my ps thought this would look the best and most natural. I've been told by other women to give it some time but it's just hard when you're not happy what so ever with something as important as breasts. Thank you again!
