Life Insurance for my Mother

Options

Hello everyone,

I'm looking into getting life insurance for my mother, but I know her breast cancer diagnosis is going to hurt us.  I'm not sure where to go.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  My mother is 62 years old.

Thank you.

    Hi,

I am sorry to hear about your Mom. Being uninsured is another burden that she (and you) shouldn't have to deal with. I didn't know where you reside but you should check different insurance companies for a quote. Doesn't hurt to try. I heard that AARP will not ask any medical questions for their insurance policy. I don't know all of the details, but you should check their website for additional information.

I hope this doesn't sound insensitive, but does your mother have underage dependents who depend on her income? I'm curious what's motivating your/her interest in LI, given her age?

If your mother's diagnosis was recent, AARP may be your best bet if indeed they don't ask medical questions.

We just recently got LI policies; I am 3 years out from a Stage 0 diagnosis and it took a fair amount of shopping around to find an insurer who would cover me at standard rates. Everyone else had surcharges of one kind or another, and I imagine that if my diagnosis was less than a year old they may not have been willing to cover me at all.

    Good luck!
