Hi,

I had mastectomy for both of my breasts due to breast cancer, and considering to reconstruct them. I heard there is a method called Lipofilling (Fat Grafting) which reconstructs the breasts by injecting the fat of other part of body into the breasts. (not tummy tuck) I am living in Toronto, Ontario. Does OHIP cover this surgery? Also, if you know any doctors who can do this surgery, please let me know.

Thank you

I was told in my preliminary plastic surgery consult that there are some surgeons in the Toronto area who do lipofilling. St Michael's Hospital and Women's College hospital were mentioned and there may be others.  Apparently, this practice for cancer patients hasn't been extensively researched and the reason why not all surgeons has adopted it (I haven't done any research in this regard but you may want to investigate this too).  May be worth calling these hospitals to find our further details and if it is OHIP covered.  All the best.

both those hospitals don't do complete FG - they will do FG (stem cell rescue) after rads to help heal the skin enough for implants.  My friend just had this done about 4 months ago.  She was at womens college, at her consult she asked about complete FG and they don't do it

Thank you for your information, rozem. Since it's relatively new method, I guess there are very few doctors who do this surgery at this point... I will keep on my research.

Hi!  Does anyone else in the Toronto area know if anyone does the fat grafting for reconstruction?  Has anything changed since this last post?  I lost my implant last year due to infection and I would really like this option.  Thanks!
