Removal of rads tattoos

Options

Hey!

Anyone out there remove their radiation tattoos? I hate mine and want them off as soon as rads is over. I wanted to see what everyone was doing.

Thanks!

I've had mone almost 5 years. They are so tiny, not a bother at all.

my understanding was that they are put there for the future.  If you ever need other medical treatment, depending on what it is,  they want to know exactly where the radiation was administered.  Those marks are tattooed for the future, not just the rad treatment you are having presently .

Mine are very small, look like a freckle.  If yours are so large they bother you, maybe something can be done.  But I would think twice and consult a doctor of two before removing them.

    Good luck

ask your radiation oncologist and see if he or she approves having them removed. I asked mine about it at my follow up appointment and he said it was completely my choice. He told me that there was no more use for them from his perspective. Seems that different docs have different recommendations in this area.

I have not followed up yet on having them removed but will most likely look into it when the time feels right. The two dots between my breasts are large and seem off center to my body which bothers me more than the size. I can't see the ones on my sides so they don't bother me.

Some dermatologists are offering to laser off radiation tattoos free of charge.  www.aslms.org/newbeginnings You can find out more here. I personally like mine, as they will remind me every so often of what I've been through. (Although I do get tired of people stating I have a pen mark on my chest...)

My side tats are tiny so don't bother me.  Front one is blue and off center!  But I try to remember this cartoon and laugh it off when I get bothered.

I'm having my radiation tattoos removed by laser.  I had the 1st treatment today - I will most likely need 1 or 2 more to have them removed completely.  So happy to be having this done!
