Oncotype DX testing on ER+ tumor results
My oncologist submitted samples of my tumor for oncotype DX testing......my score was 47 this scares the heck out of me......then I read about this test.....and it is to test ER+ tumors......so if that is the case what does this mean.......I plan to go through chemo.....but this high score, is this even accurate?

It just means chemo will be good to lower you recurrence rate, and that chemo will work on your cancer cells.

Are you triple negative? Yes, the oncotype test is for Er/Pr+ tumors. I didn't think it was useful for triple negative, as those usually require chemo. It's possible your tumor is slightly estrogen/progesterone positive...and this is why it was ordered, but regardless, given the score, I think chemo would be recommended.
The good news is that it means your tumor is likely to respond to the chemotherapy drugs.

I hope your right.......I am triple negative so that is worry some as it is......I just have no idea how the testing of a ER negative cells would affect the true values of the tumor. My tumor had little to no ER receptors . I fully plan to go the distance with the chemo....I decided that when I found out it was triple negative...thanks so much for everyone's responses it helps to be a part of such a wonderful group of strong courageous woman!

Do you have a printed copy of your oncotest? What does it say about your ER status? Perhaps if it is really low you won't need endocrine therapy(tamoxifen or an AI)

My Oncotype test chages my receptor status from positive (pathology) to virtually negative (PR- and ER 6.6 where 6.5 is negative). My MO explained that path & Onco test different things and cannot be compared; since I am ER+ on path I should be doing Tamoxifen, but I am convinced I am closer to TN and after bad SEs I gave up on Tamoxifen. I truly don't know which test to trust.

coraleliz - my onco score was done on biopsies taken before mastectomy, and I had a low score with PR/ER+, but even with the low score, after surgery I came out with pos nodes. Dr. Susan Love website says that DX trumps any low onco scores. I hope that helps.

Chekota, I just got my oncotype score of 47. Starting 64 wks of chemo soon. Oncologist was blown away at my score, said it was off the chart, just wondering how you are doing. I hope & pray that you are doing well. Jan
