Yay, baby! ;) I had come across something similar a while back. I gave up coffee when pregnant and almost died. It was horrible. 5 years later they announce that it is actually OK for pregnant women to drink coffee, grumble, grumble. So I vowed that I would never give up my coffee lightly ever again.

On a related note, chocolate really is a health food: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/274246.php

I'm off cofee now. Bought organic herb, Rosemary, and am making a tea with filtered water.  I miss coffee, but somewhere I thought that I read coffee was estrogenic?  No memory of where I read that.

YAY!  Never gave up coffee.  Frankly, it wouldn't be safe for those around me if I did.  Happy  Thankfully, I have always preferred it plain and black.  Any estrogenic activity in coffee would just have to bugger off because I won't stand for it.

There was a BCO Research News piece on Can Coffee Reduce Risk? back in May 2011 that also had encouraging words for coffee drinkers from a couple of studies.

June, I eat 70% chocolate. It does have a little sugar, but I really think it is fine, considering that I usually eat something like 1/2 ounce.

soriya123, my naturopathic oncologist recommended organic coffee; he said the beans are quite oily and somehow hang onto pesticides so organic is the way to go.  A bit more expensive but I drink coffee with a clear conscience now and we cut back on something else that we didn't really need instead.

    Thank god for coffee!

Like Selena, things would not go well for those around me without my morning coffee. I love some of the a Trader Joe's varieties (they have organic). All are whole bean , but they have a grinder in the store if you don't have one at home. Peet's (I don't know how far this much smaller than Starbucks chain reaches), has some fabulous coffees and will grind them to suit your coffee maker.

    Juneping,

Coffee shops only add milk if you ask them to or order a coffee drink like a mocha or cappuccino.

My morning coffee is one of life's small pleasures and a boost to my QOL. Yes, caffeine is addictive but we're not talking meth here. Before my bmx, I was concerned by the no coffee headache I would have after nearly 24 hours without caffeine. My ps, who shared my irreverent humor, said, "That's what morphine is for!"

caryn - i like latte, cappuccino that sort of drink. i can't drink black coffee, i always put a lot of milk (1/3 at least) into my coffee. i like milk a lot.

momine -  that sounds very organic indeed. do you know anything about sheep milk? what's the difference between goat and sheep milk? i heard goat milk is good.

June, I do not know anything about sheep milk. It is not sold anywhere around here, although we have plenty of sheep. I imagine they use all the sheep milk for making feta and other cheeses.

Buffalo milk and butter are traditionally used for making sweets. This makes sense, because the milk has a very pleasant and mild taste. It is also naturally high in fat (although I buy the low-fat one).

you're gonna get pissed at me again exbrnx girl:  gary has said there's no such thing as organic coffee because any foods from out of the country get sprayed with( fungicide?)one of our grat laws here in the usa

Abigail, how is it a US law that coffee grown abroad has to be sprayed with fungicide?

    Abigail,

I am only unhappy with you for one thing and I don't think we need to repeat what it is. As for organic coffee, I don't usually buy it due to high price (just mentioned it was sold in several places). Will check out the law regarding spraying.

Just spent the past 15 minutes looking for this law about coffee needing to be sprayed with fungicide if grown outside the US. No luck, regarding  a US government law (which doesn't mean it doesn't exist, just that I haven't found anything yet) but plenty of info on inconsistencies that may exist when products grown outside the US are labeled organic. Abby, can you site the actual law, not just Mr.Null's words? Thanks.

Gary is Gary Null. Abby is devoted to him. You can google his name and you will get a lot of info.

Juneping, I still haven't found evidence of this US law that Abby is referring to. That being said, other countries may not strictly adhere to some of the standards we expect organic foods to meet (such as the soil in which an organic crop is grown must be free of chemicals and pesticides for at least 3 years prior to an organic planting). This is a problem for coffee, of course, since we are not really a coffee producing nation. I guess the best we can do is to know and trust those we purchase from.
