Removing a DIEP Flap for Symmetry

I had a failed flap surgery and have been single stage one boobed for two years. I really want to have the other side taken off because I refer the the nonreconstructed side and for symmetry. I'm also having all kinds of shoulder issues.  Anyone heard of anyone taking off a flat?

I actually haven't heard of having a flap removed, though quite frequently women have implants removed (as you probably know). Have you talked to your surgeon about it yet? You would probably be best to go to a plastic surgeon rather than your breast surgeon. But maybe others will weigh in who have more info.

    Nancy NJ,

I feel for you! I went through months of torture with tissue expanders and implants that are now failing - evidently not installed correctly and pulling my muscles in the wrong places. They have to come out to either be replaced or do nothing. Just got another opinion from a new PS that is so much more capable, seemingly, than the one I originally was assigned by my hospital. Long story short, I'm getting implants out and NOT reconstructing. Sick of it! I work with a lot of women and have talked to lots of women in support groups. Bottom line is that many are not happy with reconstruction because, in the end, your real breasts are gone. I would listen to your body and save your shoulder. I think our systemic health is most important.

Milly01, Nancy hasn't posted here since October 2015, I doubt you'll get an answer from her.
