Hair loss and scalp shows.
I was diagnosed July 2011 and had chemo and radiation finished everything May 2012. I started taking tamoxifen at that time
and
I don't have all my hair back. I can see my scalp especially on top and
in the back. I still wear a wig and it is fustrating thinking
that
summer will be here soon and I have to keep wearing a wig. I started
using rogaine yesterday. Can anyone tell me if they had the
same problem and what they did. Thanks.

What kind of chemo did you have? If you were treated with taxotere, that might be what caused your hair loss. I hope it is just slow coming back.

Hi, Yes I was treated with taxotere. I am happy I am healthy now but the hair is making me feel sad as well as
my eyelashes haven't grown back the way they were and applying false lashes is time consuming.

@pinkgirl09, there are several threads on bco about permanent hair loss from taxotere. I'd include some links for you, but the search function isn't cooperating with me just now, it won't let me go from the results page to the relevant threads. If you put the words taxotere, permanent, and hair in the box you will see the threads I'm talking about. There is also an organization, called A Head of Our Time, for people who have this side effect. Unfortunately, I don't think a way to reverse persistent hair loss from taxotere has been found.

Thank you I checked it out I don't know what to do anymore.

I'm in the same shape you are Pink. I am 19 months post chemo..7 months post herceptin and the hair on my scalp is sparse. No eyebrows or eyelashes. My dermatologist said yesterday not to waste money on hair grow products, also said I could keep taking Biotin but probably wouldn't do much good. He says it is chemically induced alopecia and is more than likely permanent. I suspected that's what I would hear eventually but didn't soften the blow any. It is what it is. I guess I've got to just let it go. I'm thankful to be alive and cancer free but I'm not going to lie, I sure miss my hair!!
-
I might add..I do wish they would quit assuring everyone that their hair will return because mine absolutely did not!

I have thinning after two years on aromatase inhibitors, and did not have thick hair pre-chemo. I don't think my loss is from Taxotere as it seemed to grow back decently and thinned later. I have looked at this link - if things get worse this is something I would consider.

thanks Special K. My hair did not fall out at all after chemo. It just never came back in.

Hi I would like to do an update on my hair. Nothing has changed unfortunately. 5 years after chemotherapy. Anyone out there like me?
-
How frustrating not to have something that you can do to help your hair grow. I also had taxotere, my hair is growing - a bit slower than other peoples that have posted pictures.
I am hoping that medical technology will find a way to get hair to start growing again.

I lost my hair from 4 a/c treatments. Then had severe allergic reaction to one round of taxotere, 5 years ago. My hair never came back as before chemo. I have some. It's very thin, can see scalp. But I'm still here and NED so I don't miss it that much.

Yes the most important thing is that we have our health but its hard to deal with the scalp showing and thining hair.
