No longer in menopause--I'm 52

Has anyone else been through this: apparently, after having had my last period in October of 2011 (after starting chemo), was on tamoxifen for about 6 months until two blood tests a few months apart confirmed I was in menopause--MY OVARIES ARE AWAKE AND PRODUCING ESTRADIOL??!!  I've been on Femara the last few months after being on Arimidex after the tamoxifen.

Now my oncologist wants to put me back on tamoxifen.  She says this can happen. I feel like an outlier. I AM an outlier! I am worried. Also, a month ago I had post menopausal bleeding (at least that's what we thought before we knew I was no longer in menopause...) and a pelvic ultrasound showed endometrial thickening of 8mm (and a simple ovarian cyst--my first one ever) so I had a D&C/hysteroscopy which found a polyp--and final pathology was all benign.

But I feel like this is all wrong. Did I waste the last two years on AIs actually feeding my cancer? Is something else going on with me?

Has anyone else had this reversal of menopause at such a late date?

Yep! Dx'd 2/11 at 49 and had two rounds A/C. then 1 Taxol/ Carboplatin (had to stop d/t allergic responses). Last period 3/11.....for 13 months!  Periods restarted 4/12! Onc did not do menopause studies. She said only that it happens, but she was surprised. Currently 52 and continuing. I am not doing Tam or AI for other reasons. Never had hot flashes or any other menopausal symptoms. Was looking forward to finally ending the monthly cycle thing, guess not!

Hmm. Thank you for sharing your story. The never-ending period!

I'm 56(will be 57 in July)  and still getting my period. I was diagnosed in January with "post menopausal" IDC. A week later I got my period. It has slowed down to 7-8 times a year but I don't even have hot flashes. I don't know whether I am pre or post or peri -menopausal. The MDs all consider me post in regards to the cancer and treating it. Any thoughts?
