Concerned that it's not just blocked glands.

Hi everyone,

I'm new here so I'll start by saying I am only 19 so I know it would be extremely rare for me to have IBC. However, 3 days ago I noticed a red, painful mark on the side of my right breast, partially covering my areola. Since then it has now doubled in size. I also have a small red mark that has gotten a little bigger and painful on the underside of my left breast which I noticed 2 days ago. Both spots are hot to touch and both my breasts are a little purplish overall and warm. I have the tiniest bit of peau d'orange that has come up in the last 12 hours or so and no nipple inversion (I've always had fairly flat nipples). I went to a new GP this morning (I have recently moved cities) and she had a look and said they were probably just blocked glands and to just take paracetamol for pain. I also wanted to point out that I am not pregnant, have never been pregnant and therefore never breastfed so I thought sudden blocked glands would be unusual. I was told to go back if it hasn't cleared up in a week but the more research I do the more I freak out. My aunty and great aunt both had breast cancer and luckily are alive and well today but it does mean I am at risk and I gave all this info to my GP.

Thanks for any help anybody can give me or experiences with early symptoms (also the rate of progression). Thank you!

There are MANY possibilities for 'redness' on the breast - IBC is probably the least likely.

Of all the types of BC (DCIS/LCIS/IDC/ILC/IBC), IBC is only between 1% and 5% of all diagnosed BCs.  It is even rarer in people of your age.  It also seldom (if ever) presents in both breast at the same time.

Find out what is going on but do not assume that which is unlikely.
