My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in July 2013. Her tumor was so large, it was 7.6cm. And mammogram also showed that there was a lump. My concern is the skin of tumor site was red at that time. Is it ibc? Or just because the tumor too large so the skin became red??  I am very worried about her condition.. how I wish it is just a nightmare... :((

Hi thanks for your response. :) we have the pathology report. It says invasive ductal carcinoma. But I worry because the skin is red. Can you give me more explanation about ibc? My mom tumor is small, but then becoming large and large, when the tumor became so large, the skin started to become red.

There are MANY reasons why an area of the breast  can become reddened.   IBC is one of the least likely.

The path. report from her surgery will tell you what her DX was - DCIS, LCIS, IDC, ILC or IBC.  It is possible (though not usual) for more than one type of BC to be present but the report will show if that's her case.  If she doesn't have a copy of her report then it would be a good ideamfor her to reqiest one.  A call to her Drs (surgeon or chemo Dr) or their PA/NP/RN, can explain the findingsto her/you.

Pathology report says section from the tumour bed show sheets of foamy macrophages, hyalinization of collagen, fibrosis and necrosis. Focally siderophages and chronic inffllammation are present. Residual foci of invasive ductal carcinoma are present.

Hystology type : ductal, nos with treatment related changes.

    Associated dcis : none

    Associated lcis : absent

    Paget disease : absent

    Inflammatory response : 2+

Surgical margins : resection base and other margins are grossly clear

Total numver of node sampled : 14

Number of node positive : 0, but two of lymph nodes show aggregates of foamy macrophages and fibrosis consistent with post treatment changes

Residual invasive ductal xcarcinoma (post neoadjuvant treatment), NOS with focal aprocine change, SBR grade 3.

Does that inflammatory responses mean it is ibc?

Then I wonder in petscan there was a tumor around 3cm on her lymph nodes. Does it mean all 14lymph nodes are positive? But in the report,  it says only two lymph nodes that show a change. Any of you with a tumor more than 6cm, experience any change on the surface of skin?

Dear Bon, I dont know how I should say thank to you. It really helps. Since actually I am Indonesian, may english is not so good, so it is not easy to understand the report. Thus, in your opinion, do you think it is ibc or idc?

Were you diagnosed at stage 4 from the first? Or was it recurrence? I want to ask, how was your respond to chemotherapy? My mom underwent 4cycles neoadjuvant chemo, and the tumor shrinked from 7.6 to 1.8cm. And the 3 cm enlarged lymph nodes disappeared.
