Disturbing Post

My wife is Stage 4, and  now in remission and on an estrogen blocker. It was disturbing to read a recent topic here about ladies to post if they have made the 5 year mark BC free. It was disturbing to me to see the vast majority as any other stage but 4. There were hardly any of those. My wife's OC told her outright it will return and probably be of a much more aggressive type. I am scared about what the future holds for her. I keep looking at new treatments coming out; that BZA in particular.

    Mike,

I am sorry to hear about your wife. Although those of us with stage IV are living longer and we continue to be hopeful about advances in treatment, the reality is that we have metastatic disease. I am extremely hopeful that I will go on for many years with a good quality of life but I am also very pragmatic and understand the nature of metastatic bc. To use a cliche, I hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

Good luck to you and your wife.

It is very disturbing but statistically only about 20% of stage IV make it past the 5th year. I think that's why it is pretty much considered incurable for the most part. Many need treatment to stay alive but who wants to continue endless treatment when they are not getting results or suffering horrible side effects that make a horrible quality of life?

But statistics mean nothing to the individual! I try to keep reminding myself. I wish your wife the best. Glad she is in remission.
