I was diagnosed with lung cancer just before Xmas, had a lobectomy to remove the tumor on Jan 21rst, then on Valentines day was diagnosed with Infiltrating Ductal Carcinoma. I haven't met with an oncologist yet, next week I meet him. I have a thousand questions, first, anyone have the two cancers, is this normal? Both were caught in the early stages, I am in good physical shape, but I'm starting to lose my confidence. This is the first time joining a discussion board, just looking to talk

Cop-2 - So sorry about your DX. I don't know about 2 cancers at one time; we all have heard about and maybe know people who have BC that has unfortunately metastasized to other organs usually the liver and lungs so I don't think it is normal but obviously it does happen. It is really encouraging  that they caught the cancers in the early stages because while that isn't a guarantee it is a certainly in your favor. I would write down all the questions you have for your oncologist so you are prepared. I cant tell how many times I have left the doctor's office and thought about a question I should have asked. Sending prayers your way; post when you get back from the Oncologist. Diane

http://community.breastcancer.org/forum/142/topic/810373?page=1#idx_15  here is a pretty recent thread on lung cancer and BC on the board Breast Cancer with another Diagnosis or Co-Morbidity. Great that both have been caught early and that you are in good physical shape - all in your favor. good luck to you.

in 1987 I had IDC with lymph node involvement, mastectomy, then chemo. In 1989 I was diagnosed with lung cancer and had the right lower lobe removed, one lymph node involved.  Tamoxifen for a number of years. Then femara.  Stage IV mets diagnosed in my right lung in 2008.  Six years of treatments and I am still kicking!!  Good quality of life for now and trying to make lots of good memories for my kids and grandkids.  You are not alone, though I think it is rare to have both breast and lung cancer.  In fact, they originally thought the lung ca was metastatic breast cancer until they studied the tumors.  Totally unrelated.  The cancer in my lung now IS the same breast cancer I had in 1987.   My best wishes to you as you begin this hopefully very long journey!!

I am 3 1/2 yrs status post bilat mastectomy and chemo for stage 1 IDC.  3 months ago I had a right upperlobectomy for stage 1 lung cancer, unrelated to the breast cancer.  I am also 20 yrs status post removal of a melanoma on my thigh.  In theory, I have potentially been cured of all three cancers.  Time will tell.  There is a thread, as linked above, for those of us with BC and unrelated lung cancer.    Feel free to join that thread or PM me with any questions.  There was a big difference between the two surgeries.  You have survived the worst.
