BC Bone metastasis after 21 years dx today

Options

in 1992 I was 36 years old and just getting engaged when I was dx with breast cancer. I decided on a bi-lateral Mastectomy. After 3 opinions I decided to not have 6 months of chemo and then tomoxifin as it only changed my rate of reoccurrence by 5%. I did not want to negate the possibility to have children and also compromise my immune system by going through all the treatment for such a low gain.

After a month of testing I learned this morning my breast cancer has metastasized to the bones in my chest and back. The medical community is stumped and I am stunned. I have been complaining of pain for a few years at the site of my original tumor but told by doctors that it could not be from my breast cancer as I was considered cured.

Anyone familiar with this after 21+ years? Pathology is still working up my markers but I am ready to get educated in what is in store for me. Any information about trials or best centers for this dx.

Also, I married in 1993 and have 2 beautiful teenage daughters.  As strange as it may seem, I feel blessed that I was able to have them and given this amount of time to raise them.  I would still like to have more time with them but ready for the treatment and prognosis realities in order to make the best decisions. Grateful for any input you have!

So sorry that you are here (again), and having to go through this. But so thrilled that you have two lovely teen children!

Please keep us posted on what they find. Do they think that this is perhaps a new breast cancer that has metastasized? Whatever it is though, you sound strong, and like you are ready to do what you need to.

    We're thinking of you!

Sorry you have to be here. What was your original diagnosis? , hormone positive breast cancer apparently can recur after many years . The good news is that there are a lot of people in this boards living for years after a stage 4 diagnosis  with a good quality of life . I was also diagnosed at 36 last year .

    Shishlou,

Damn! so sorry you are back here after so many years. The good news....is that treatment for breast cancer has advanced by leaps and bounds since you were first diagnosed. So there is much hope! Sending you a big hug.
