Malignant Neoplasm of the Breast

Good Morning, I had a lumpectomy in December of 2012 for intraductal hyperplasia. I was told everything looked good when I had my follow up with my surgeon. I have had 2 mammograms with the last one being in January. They didn't seem concerned after viewing the images and did not want to do a ultrasound so I assumed everything wa stable. Well I checked my health record this morning on my health insurance site and was concerned when I saw the diagnosis for that mammogram was malignant neoplasm of the breast. Is this just something that is used so that I will recieve the mammogram again in 6 months or is it something I should be concerned about now? Thank you for any information you can provide me.

I would contact your doctor for clarification as to why this is on your report.  Clear communication is important and we cannot always rely on office staff to call us regarding results.  Speak to your doctor to find out why this is in your records.

Hi Southpaw, malignant neoplasm of the breast is the diagnosis commonly used for DCIS, so that's probably why you saw that diagnosis.  It doesn't necessarily mean that you have invasive breast cancer, but best to check it out.
