IBC on one side and infection on the other

In late 2011, I was diagnosed with IBC on my right side with the redness, peau de orange, but not much swelling.  Anyway, it was a bad case as my surgeon said he had never seen so much disease throughout a breast that I had.

Recently, I had the same symptoms on my left side but this time with swelling and itching.  But this time it was an infection.  I'm on my third week of antibiotics and all the symptoms are gone.  It would be impossible to tell the difference by simply looking at the symptoms.

I was at my breast surgeon's office within 24 hours because I do not ignore anything that even remotely could be IBC.  The reason I posted this is to say that the symptoms for IBC and infection can be identical.  In fact, I would say that my IBC side was a lot less alarming than the infection side.

You can't tell by looking what it is.  In my cast, the left breast is an infection, but that was only proven by antibiotics.  The breast surgeon was all ready to do a skin biopsy but he let it go a week just in case it was infection.

Thanks for your advice.  I am having a PET/CT scan on the 24th, so we will see.
