Refusal to do breast ultrasounds

My imaging facility refuses to do my bilateral breast ultrasound along with my mammos, even though it is written on the prescription from the doctor.  They tell me it's not necessary unless the "radiologist" thinks I need it, regardless of what the script says.   They even questioned the script because part of it was written by the doctor and part by one of his staff members; almost accusing me of writing part of it myself!  

The Florida Department of Health told me to file a complaint, but I don't want to do that, I just want them to do what the script is calling for.  I can't go to another facility due to insurance reasons.  I'm seeing the doctor at the end of the month and want another script just for the ultrasounds and will have his office call them to make sure they get done.  I never heard of a radiologist making the call on a doctors script.

I had to be very firm when I had a script for both once. The mammography tech also said the same thing- that the radiologist would order an ultrasound if needed.

What happened with me is that I had to ask three times and tell them emphatically that is what my doctor ordered. Have your doctor's office call the facility.

I think one reason they may not want to do the ultrasound is concern that insurance wouldn't pay for it without a radiologist's recommendation. That was one reason given to me. But since I signed paperwork saying I would be responsible for my medical bills, that was a moot point. I told them I would be happy to pay for the ultrasound; they called my doctor's office while I was there. I did get the ultrasound. And insurance paid because I have had dense breasts.

Needless to say, I don't go to that facility anymore! Sorry you don't have a choice. I would complain. Why wouldn't you? It would hopefully save another woman from going through this.Good luck getting the ultrasound!
