John's Hopkins' findings as to how/why BC tumors spread.
Metastatic BC Alliance - John's Hopkins Discovery as to how/why tumors spread!!!
This is breath taking. They are on to something now.

Another promising study. He does make it sound so easy to just "turn off" the genes. I guess the challenge is finding how to do so. Fingers crossed!

Wow! Thanks for sharing!

WOW! What more is there to say? Thanks for sharing?

I will never look at playdoh the same way again! Pesky yellow cells.

Thanks for sharing the video!

I really enjoyed this video. I couldn't tell from the video if they know what the yellow gene is already or if they are still searching for what the yellow gene is?
-
I love his enthusiasm.... Makes me believe...
-
Yellow was never my favourite colour. Now I know why!! Thanks for sharing this, Liz. Fingers crossed they can find that "switch" and fast!
-
Even if the gene is found, and there is a way to switch it off, it sounds like this is a way of preventing metastasis. That would be great, but it doesn't sound to me as if this research can lead to a possible treatment for those of us who are already stage IV.
-
the yellow playdoh is called k14 protein. Google k14 leader cells and johns hopkins. Sorry am on my phone. This could still help us if it stops any progression.
-
Thank you for sharing this! I'm getting a little excited.
-
Thanks Heidihill. I googled the K14 leader cells and the article was very interesting and promising. The only down part was that the scientist in the video is quoted in the article as saying they are still several years away from helping humans with this research. *sigh* It seems all the big promising stuff is still so far away!!
-
only thing I got was "it's about funding".
-
Chickadee,
I love your Phyllis Diller quote!

An example of gene therapy in practice. Looks like the technology is there to fix the genes if they know which one it is. Hopeful news Thanks for posting.
-
I agree with Chickadee, he needs more $ and he likes playing with playdoh. lol.
But I do hope that they are successful soon.
-
It looks like this research is moving along.

Thanks for the tip, JohnSmith! There's no doing without basic science research. The more we find out how cancer behaves, the greater the chance we can stop metastatic spread.

Thanks, Heidi Hill,

I just had to take a huge gulp...and then cry. I saw this thread, looking at the date...Feb 3rd. I read responses, before looking at the video...scrolled down & got excited to see posts from sisters who haven't posted for a while....then, sisters who are gone. It was a thread from Feb 3, 2014. I HATE this disease & it makes me sick that in the 2 years since this thread began...we are still suffering so...losing so many precious lives. I'm so damn sad.
-
ronniekay, I am so sorry that this has upset you. ((((Hugs)))) i did think whether to post this or not, as a bump or as its own post. I decided for continuity, which probably was a mistake.

(((RonnieKay)))
I miss so many of my beloved friends too.
This disease has broken my heart so damn many times.
As Leonard Cohen sings in Anthem, "There is a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in."
Sometimes, I feel my heart more in shards than as a cracked whole.
Then the light shines again.
Love & compassion, Stephanie

Oh Heidi...You definitely made the right decision! I'm glad for your bringing news forward...and truly, as much as it caught me (the date is what I looked at..pure coincidence), I did reflect on those names & faces that have gone before us, and were so much a part of all our existence, as Bonnie says, our legacy. I can't imagine being alone on this path, without all of you and the wisdom you share. Stephanie...DH loves Leonard Cohen & was listening to him this am. His haunting voice is hard for me to listen to...so I'm going to listen to his words more closely. Thanks All :-)
