Saw an independent local breast surgeon one week after biopsy.  Going for 2nd opinion at a major hospital cancer center tomorrow afternoon (3 weeks after biopsy).  I have no clue about my lymphs, guess will know after surgery.  I'm only a stage 1 grade 2 so the first BS said small lumpectomy & radiation.  Sounds good especially the recovery time is short - I have 2 beautiful toddler/preschool grandsons I love playing.  I only want one surgery.  Have had too many "scare" over years of mammograms.  So I think I just want to get it all over & done with a BMX with  immediate reconstruction.  I'm young (62) & healthy currently with good insurance (who knows what future insurance will become) and think my chances are greatest now for success.  I have family history (3 generations) of cancers in general (2 maternal aunts & one of their daughters with BC - my mom died young so don't know if she would have gotten BC like her 2 sisters).  I have bilateral breast implants because if a surgical biopsy years ah.  I'm afraid of radiation damage to implant plus possible damage at time of lumpectomy.  That's why I think I want BMX.  I'm going CRAZY trying to figure this all out.  Don't know if I'm weighing all the wrong issues with this decision.  I hope my appointment at the cancer clinic tomorrow makes things more clear.  Guess I just needed to put my fears in writing.  After posting I see my DX does not appear.  Went into settings & made it public is that how I make it show up after my post?  Anyway my DX is IDC Grade 2, Stage 1, PR+/ER+, Her2-

    good morning 2bnude,

So many decisions to make ...... I understand.  This past October I was dx with dcis, 10cms of diffuse lesions. I'm forty have three children and was finishing a masters degree in nursing.  I knew I would need a unilateral mastectomy.  After speaking with two breast surgeons and a plastic surgeon, I decided upon a bmx with immediate trams flap reconstruction.  I could not be happier :-). I'm six weeks out and resuming my regularly scheduled life.  I will not undergo radiation as margins were clear, I do need to undergo one very small skin excision surgery to clear a skin margin.  They also found that I had an idc grade 3 in final path....thought I might need chemo, but learned Friday my oncotype score was 12 giving me a low chance of recurrence (8%) and chemo would only slightly lower that recurrence to 7.5%.  I am so glad I chose a bmx.  If there is anything I can answer for you I'm happy to share my experience with you.  I wish you all the best. Remember attitude is 98% of this process.
