juice - how much

I have decided to juice but I still eat 3 meals during the day.

I guess there's no upper limit as to how much should be juiced, but i was just curious to find out how many veggies others are using.

I'm using about 5 carrots, 1 beetroot, some ginger, some celery and just add whatever I have.

Then I take the juice and blend it with some frozen berries and Water to make it Cold (i was wondering if blending the juice did anything "bad" to the nutrients?) That makes about 1 litre, maybe 700 ml without Water.

Not an enormous dose but much better than nothing and more tastier than the smoothies I was chewing my way through before...

This is a similar recipe to the one that Chris Wark uses, you can check out his website on chrisbeatcancer.com, he has a lot of good ideas on there.

newdirection from what i've read, those are all the right ones. I definitely wouldn't go much more on the beets though. More than a couple at a time has some uncomfortable side effects. They are potent though. There's some articles about beets and effect on bc on the informed people thread.

That's pretty much what I have too, about 1 litre of the same Vegetables. I refrigerate all my ingredients so they are cold. I don't overdo the Beetroot either.

I am growing a lot of different herbs and they go in, along with baby spinach and kale.

I have a Vitamix, which makes the juice and keeps the fiber, or I use the Oscar Juicer which is a slow auger, cold press machine which removes the pulp. Either way, juicing is really good for getting the Vitamins and  trace elements you need.

I follow Dr Norman Walker's Juicing book. He says to eat your fruit and juice your vegetables. That's not to say that I don't throw in an apple or some berries at times too.

thanks for the answers. I didn't know beets in rather small doses had side effects! i have an omega slow juicer.
About eating fruit - is it because the insulin raise will be lower when eating the whole fruit? I just like the idea of getting apple seeds pressed into the juice.

    Thanks again, happy juicing :)

Newdirection, I did not know that about beets either. We eat a lot of them both cooked and raw.

The point of eating the whole fruit is exactly to have the fiber slow the sugar absorption.

    new direction,

I've been juicing for a couple of months now. I'm wondering why you want to keep the apple seeds. I've been cutting them out as I read they had cyanide. Is there an anti-cancer benefit?

Like apricot kernels apple seeds contains amygdalin. I haven't researched the topic about vitamin B17 in depth but I think there is some truth to it.

Amygdalin is basically a precursor of cyanide. There is no vitamin B17, although amygdalin has been called this by some. Here is the wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amygdalin

    Momine thanks.
This is about what I already knew. Don't think this either proves or disproves the theory. Would like to hear from others if you know more about it.

I've just found Chris's website too, it's a great reference. I am trying to get a lot of broccoli in my juice, in addition to carrot, celery, spinach and beet root. I have to add a small apple and ginger to make it (barely) palatable. Is anyone else HR+ and trying to get more crucifers in their juice to aid I3C/DIM supplements?

I am making it fresh, one drinking glass full, twice a day. I will go mad if I have to clean the juicer more often than that! I did like Chris's suggestion of making a double batch and drinking it later. I will start doing that I think.

I've just had a local recurrence and I'm struggling with treatment options and ever further diagnosis options (I won't have a mammogram or a core biopsy), so I want to do everything I can while this little sucker is still inside me to stop it growing.

Assetbc -I too juice 3 to 4 times a day 24 oz at a time and drink immediately.  You may want to do further research on the storage of fresh juice.  The enzymes break down quickly when not drank within a short-time.

How about some broccoli sprouts?  They're supposed to be amazingly potent.

Pipersdream - I grow broccoli sprouts in my kitchen and try to eat a cup per day.  I bought a growing kit and organic seeds from Amazon.  I don't always eat a cup per day because I eat them quicker than I can sprout.  I sometimes sprout other beans to.

I've not been juicing since I'm on a low carb diet, but after I lose the next 13 lbs and get my garden in I'll start.  I do make a juice blend with V-8 juice and a stalk of celery though and flavor it up like a bloody mary.  Celery is supposed to stop the blood supply to the tumor.  I put some cilantro in today for detox too and was surprised that I didn't like it as well--I love cilantro so I'll keep using it in my fresh salsa recipes instead.

Piper, I adore V-8. Have you tried the reduced sodium? It's really pretty good, especially if you add salty stuff like worcestershire to it. And lots of lemon or lime. Yum!
