Oral Navelbine / Vinorelbine
I found out today that I'll be starting oral Vinorelbine soon (latest scans show the Afinitor/Aromasin combo has stopped working for me), so I'm starting this thread to see if anyone is currently taking it, how you're doing and any top tips you might have... Thanks for any info!

Haven't heard of oral Navelbine. That's convenient! Hoping for the best for you.

My mother is taking oral navelbine. What I can say is that she lost weight ( 5 kgs so far) since she started the treatment (she has done 4 cycles so far) and SE are worst compared to xeloda. I'm not sure intravenous navelbine would be better but I could guess that it might be. There was a doctor that my mum consulted before she started oral navelbine, which was completely against this oral form because of the toxicity. She told my mother that her patients usually lost a lot of weight on that drug. Anyway, my mum decided to give it a try and I can't wait for it to be over.
All the best for you.

I have been on intravenous Navelbine for more than 2 years. Oral Navelbine is not available in Canada. I asked about it and was told that the gastro-intestinal SEs can be much worse than with the IV version.

I was on IV Navelbine and wanted to take oral Navelbine on holiday. I was told the cost is much higher for oral tablets and that I'd have to take a higher dosage (not sure if it's due to the bioavailability of tablet form). I decided to skip the dosage eventually as oral tablets was not covered by my insurance.
I'd great response with Navelbine, hope it does well for you too:)

Thanks for the replies, ladies! Sounds like I'm going to be a bit of a guinea pig for the oral form, then, but that's the way things are moving here in the UK. I'll let you know how I get on...

Hi Angelfalls. I'm from UK too and I have just finished cycle 2 of oral Navelbine. I had 11 cycles of Xeloda. The Xeloda se's were too much for me in the end. No skin on hands and feet and I was so sore. Onc said I did well to get to 11th cycle. Because they reduced the dose to the lowest possible it stopped working. Hence Navelbine. I believe that they give 3 cycles at 60mg/m2 and the up it on the 4th cycle to 80mg/m2. I will get scan after 4th cycle to see if its working. I have had no real se's apart from feeling tired and a little nausea for two days after treatment. In fact compared to Xeloda it seems a doddle. Wish you well and please keep in touch. We can compare notes. My local hospital says that they have several patients on Navelbine at the moment.

Please do continue to post your experiences - perhaps this is a new approval in Canada. I'm pretty sure I was offered this very recently as a second choice if IV Navelbine caused a particular kind of problem. Was not paying a lot of attention as IV was the reasonable choice since I'm doing it with Cisplatin. I think it will be popular just because of cost saving - much cheaper - even if the drug is more expensive to cut out infusion centre costs. I think you'll be joined by others soon.

and here's where I belong from today on
I will be receiving the first cycle in IV form in a couple of hours, MO planned. She summed up shortly that I wouldn't hopefully be waiting for worse SEs on Navelbine, after my 5-year experience on Xeloda.
I'll be focusing on Navelbine these few days, share my entire experience and info I gather..
From cycle no:2 onwards will be pill form..
MO said be ready in case there's constipation, so as of tonight I quit my entire shouldn't consume items out of my diet
I also will be quitting Endoxan, Arimidex, Zoladex shots as well.. just will see Navelbine's performance alone.
Great! Cos I look like a 6-month pregnant woman, being chemically menaupaused.
Guess I'll fit in my clothes soon
a few pounds to loose is very fine by me!
Anyway,
I'll be updating soon.

How is the oral navelbine? is it tolerable?
-
I just started on Navelbine capsules this week, recently having been diagnosed with MBC. I experienced some GI side effects between 6-12 hrs after intake, after this I have been doing fine. The dosing schedule is once a week. If tolerated the plan is to increase the dose after 3 weeks.
I am also interested to hear from others
