ADH for second time in different breasts

Hi ladies. Hope I'm posting in the right spot. I've been on another forum talking about this latest round of MRI's, bx etc. I had ADH three years ago on the left, treated with excisional open bx and close follow ups since then (no cancer beyond that mass).  I had an MRI (rather unexpectedly) 12/23, the MRI bx Friday. Got results today for ADH in the right breast now.  Unfortunately the bx clip didn't deploy during the MRI guided bx on Friday so now I need to have MRI localization first and then go directly to surgery (last time I had a needle localization with a mammogram first).

Has anyone had ADH in both breasts?  How about the MRI localization procedure?  I'd love to hear any experiences you may have had. I'm not really freaking out yet but I just want to get as much info as possible. Thx

    Hi,

I probably can not offer you much, a few weeks ago I was dx with multiple ADH in both breast by core biopsy.  I am trying to decide if I should just have my breasts removed. On right I have one and left 2 . I have not meet anyone with multiple ADH at the same time.

    Any recommendation?

    Best,

Hi lucky mother.  I'm sorry you're going thru this all too.  This is my second time-I only currently have it in one breast (last time on the left).  I don't know how many people have it in both at the same time.  Personally I would not be ready to have any major surgery. I don't want to have to keep having these work ups every year but it's only my second go-round.  If I find any good info I will definitely post.  Best of luck

Hi, Lucky and Comets, there is no way to know how many people have ADH in both breasts at the same time, or even ADH in one breast unbeknownst to them.  The ADH is usually only "found" if there are microcalcs in the area, but ADH is not the microcalcs themselves, only in the vicinity.  So, many people probably have it and don't know it, perhaps in both breasts.  A really good question is (which I don't have the answer), just how rare is ADH?  When I was diagnosed with it almost 19 years ago, before the internet, etc., I photocopied lots of research studies, and it appeared that it was pretty rare.  It certainly boosted the risk of bc, especially combined with family history.  I wonder, now that imaging has become so much more sophisticated, if more and more people will find ADH in both breasts.  Then the question is, what to do about it?  Tough one.  Most ADH doesn't lead to CA, even though the risks are increased.  Personally, I didn't get invasive cancer only DCIS, which I consider pre-invasive (and some don't even call it "cancer") and it took 17 years to get there. Maybe someone else can answer the question of incidence of ADH, and maybe others will post that they received the dx in both breasts.
