anti-malaria chinese drug+iron kills breast cancer cells

artemisinin is the drug that Chinese used to kill malaria

with 98% efficacy.   malaria like cancer cells tend to

concentrate iron in their cells, and artemisinin completely

beats the efficacy of any western malaria drugs (70%)

Very interesting articles. Thanks for posting. I've been on an anti-malaria drug since being diagnosed with paraneoplastic syndrome 3+ years ago. Maybe that has something to do with why I'm still around!

Best wishes for you!   So are you also on iron supplementation?

According to this article, adding iron to anti-malaria drugs boosts the anti-cancer

effect by concentrating more iron into the cancer cells.

Thanks for the good wishes jenrio. No, I do not take iron supplements. I think that might have an adverse affect on my liver. I do however, try to drink a tonic water for the extra quinine bump ever day (when I can stomach it).  It too, helps with the neuropathy of the paraneoplastic syndrome. If it turns out the drug has actually been killing some cancer cells in me, it will have been a happy accident. What is quite funny is that mosquitos act like they've hit a brick wall when they buzz around me, while everyone else is being chewed up! Looking forward to seeing how those clinical trials pan out.

Wow - this is really interesting!  The First I've read about an iron connection - but my memory stinks.  leggo - good for your doctor to treat you with an anti-malaria medication.  I'm guessing that is not commonly known to treat your syndrome.  Sending more Best Wishes to you!

Very interesting. I read an article entitled "Does Iron Have a Role in Breast Cancer?" last summer that led me to take iron supplements.  The author argued that iron may be a double-edged sword, in that deficiency in young women and iron overload in post-menopausal women may both contribute to breast cancer. In my case, as a vegetarian I've been chronically low in iron over the years (couldn't give blood on many occasions) though only anemic once. There is a naturopathic oncologist at Bastyr University who is using artemisinin in addition to IV vitamin C to treat breast cancer patients, as well.

Thanks for the good wishes cp. I am very fortunate that I have a doc that thinks outside the box. The minute he got the studies regarding metformin and statins, he called me up. If it wasn't for the anti-malarial, I'd still be in a wheelchair I think, so I am grateful every single day that he cares so much.
